The Offerings (Part 1) The first thing God asked them to do is to provide offerings. The offerings have their own meaning which we will see in the details.  The first offerings were first mentioned in Genesis 4:3-4, where Cain and Abel brought their offerings to the Lord. However, Cain's offerings were rejected by God, probably either because it is not the best quality, or because it does not carry any blood in it, which represents what Jesus will do. Abel, however provided the firstborn of his flock and of their fat, which is similar to the burnt offering God asked for in Leviticus....

The people of Israel, the covenant descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, were still camped at the foot of Mount Sinai. They remained at Sinai throughout the time period covered by the book of Leviticus. The Israelites were very afraid when the Lord came down to Sinai. It said in Exodus 20:18-19  "Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off.  Then they said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.”   Only Moses was able to go up the mountain to speak with God. Leviticus Preparation The four framework of Leviticus 1. Law (Ex 19:5) - Bondage --> Grace --> Exodus Event --> Law at Sinai 2. Covenant (Ex 19:5)  -  Remember His gift of salvation, Obeying His commandments, Become the kingdom of Priests.  3. Tabernacle (The rest of Ex 19) - Tabernacle is modeled with the Mt Sinai, where Moses can go up, but the rest must stay outside.  4. Exodus (Ex 19:4)  - journey to Holy God 1. Function of God's Law In the Old Testament, there are 613 laws. Half of them are found in Leviticus.  Function of God's law - to help us and to show us. To live a holy life and to show us our holy God.  The divine law was spoken by our divine God to Moses.
